Dr. Darlene Jenkins: Board Member

Dr. Darlene Jenkins, DrPH, MPH, BS has been a Public Health Practitioner for 26 years.  She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Clinical Dietetics from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda California and was a Clinical Dietitian in various hospital settings for 6 years. Upon completing her MPH from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI Dr. Jenkins entered the public health arena and served in several capacities ranging from Prenatal Nutritionist, to Director of the Women Infant and Children Program for a county health department.

In 1997, Dr. Jenkins completed her studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health and received a Doctorate in Public Health specializing in Community Health Sciences and Women’s Health. 

Dr. Jenkins is currently the Director of Research for the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, headquartered in Nashville TN. Prior to this position; she served 3 years as the Director of Disparity Elimination for the Tennessee Department of Health.

Dr. Jenkins is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Health Education Specialist and has a Graduate Certificate in Non-Profit Management.  She currently serves as Chair of the Nashville Health Disparities Coalition, and is an active member of the Middle Tennessee YMCA Restore Ministries Executive Board.  Dr. Jenkins is also a member of the Community Advocates Advisory Council for the Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Jenkins serves as the Administrative Elder for Outreach Ministries at Riverside Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nashville and was ordained as an elder in the Adventist Church March 2009.
